This is a great time to reflect on the past year, and look forward to the new. In 2018, I did around thirty-five trips to the mountains, most of them hikes and snowshoe trips, along with a few solo trips just to see the sights like any tourist. I tried quite a few trails that were new to me. There were no accidents or injuries on my trips, I’m happy to say, although every time I read of rescues and recoveries, it made me continue to keep safety and preparedness at the forefront of all my plans.
I hope that will continue to be the case in 2019, for myself and all of us who love going out into the backcountry. It’s a beautiful place, and so good for the soul, but we always need to be aware that things can quickly become dangerous if we don’t plan and prepare.
Since this isn’t one of my usual blog posts, about a particular trail or trails, I thought I would share with you some of the artwork I’ve made in the last month to give to friends and family as Christmas cards. These represent views from many areas I’ve travelled in the winter.
I wish you all the best in 2019 – Happy Trails!
